My first post!!!

Hi, hello and marhaba... This blog is all about my experiences with cooking, eating out, books, movies (kind of obvious, ain't it? :-)) and all other things that strike my fancy...

The first challenge I faced was to come up with an interesting enough (?) blog title. Came up with a lot of mundane ones when I suddenly remembered the book Eats, Shoots and leaves... :-) (what a modern tribute to wren and martin that was... ) Anyways, adapted the same to my blog title... Incidentally, am watching LOTR back-to-back as I do this. What a movie!!!

I spend my time divided between my books, movies, a couple of tv shows that I follow... That's the laid-back side of me.

The creative side to me - is all about 'my kitchen'!!! Was a kitchen rookie till a year back... feasting on my mom's mouth-watering dishes...and my dad's health-food. A typical meal in my house used to be - some rice or tiffin or moong dal porridge, sambar, rasam, koottu, dry subzi, spinach mash (courtesy mom) My dad's contribution - soyabean sundal, white pumpkin juice, carrot/beetroot juice, cucumber juice, roasted seeds.etc. (whew...)

Then, I got married!!! :-) And I learnt to cook..!!! whew... what times (nightmarish) those were. (Have had quite a few escapades in the kitchen...shall make that a post sometime :-))
My saviors were 'Vedavalli's Samaipadhu eppadi'...and 'Meenakshi ammal's Samaithu Paaru' . And my mom and in-laws of course - who were patient enough with me :-)
At last, I graduated - with flying colours says my dear hubby!!! Now, I try out recipes I find on the net (another fav. passtime) - Love tarla dalal's recipes, ndtvcooks.com and many many bloggers' contributions. Hats off to you guys - You inspire me!!!

Enough for now... Gotto make cheedai and coconut burfi. Visiting friends over the weekend... Always like giving people something that I made, rather than buying eats for them. The personal touch! - something that I learnt from my mom and hope to follow all my life...

Ciao...
